BROTHERHOOD BEYOND THE BATTLEFIELD:
Founded by a group of combat-injured Marines who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, The After Action Battalion exists to support newly injured service members and their families during the hardest moments of recovery.
The mission of the After Action Battalion is to provide injured service members with:
Recovery Care Packages comprised of items thoughtfully selected by our team to promote a sense of wellbeing, boost morale throughout recovery, and address some of the lesser-known needs that can arise during a long-term hospital stay.
Professional preservation and framing of medals, certificates, or flags received by the service member while hospitalized.
Family travel assistance to cover the cost of travel for the primary family member/caregiver to the recovery location of the injured service member.
Family Care Packages to include personal care items and meal delivery gift cards for primary caregiver of the injured service member.
Retreats/Reunions for post-9/11 military units who were deployed to combat zones.
Continued outreach to those served by our program to show support.
Our STORY:
The After Action Battalion was founded by a group of combat-injured Marines who served together in the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, based out of The Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, California.
These Marines served two combat deployments together. First, to Al Anbar Province, Iraq in 2007, and then to Helmand Province, Afghanistan, in 2008. The founding members of The After Action Battalion are all recipients of The Military Order of the Purple Heart, as a result of all sustaining severe, life-threatening injuries at varying points along the timeline of these deployments.
After having completed their own individual recoveries at Military Treatment Facilities across the country, the founders of the After Action Battalion possess a personal understanding of the shock of injury, as well as the courage and determination it takes to take on recovery.
When reflecting on significant moments in their own recoveries, memories of support and kindness from a wide range of individuals and organizations come quickly to mind. Our founders created The After Action Battalion with a goal of “paying it forward,” to the injured service members that follow after them using a collective knowledge and understanding of the recovery process - the challenges faced, and the types of support that mattered most.
Please join us in helping to support newly injured service members and their families.
